Title: Low-Carbon Local Energy Supply and
Consumption

Abstract: Energy supply networks (e.g. electricity, natural gas, hydrogen, district heating, district cooling networks, electrified transportation, and the associated Information and communication infrastructure) are beginning to undergo a  radical transformation which includes: the introduction of new
components, new network configurations, new design and operation philosophies, and new incentives and business models. This revolution is affecting and integrating various energy systems, from energy production, energy supply
networks, down to consumption. It is significantly increasing the coupling and interactions between energy systems at various scales (from multinational, national, community scale down to building level). This talk will focus on the latest research and development on low-carbon regional energy supply and consumption, and the key topics include the whole system approach, local renewable generation, integrated energy networks, flexible demand and new energy supply
philosophy.

Prof. Jianzhong Wu researches on Smart Grid and energy infrastructure (modelling, analysis and optimisation of integrated smart energy supply networks). He has contributed to more than 40 EU, EPSRC and industry funded projects as a Principal Investigator or a Co-Investigator. Particularly he was the deputy leader of the Multi-Energy Theme of EPSRC HubNet, Principal Investigator of projects on dynamic demand funded by National Grid, Toshiba and OPEN ENERGI, and the Cardiff Principal Investigator of EU Horizon 2020 projects on “Peer to Peer Smart Energy Distribution Networks” and “MAGNITUDE”. He is a co-Director of RCUK Supergen Hub on Energy Networks, a co-Principal Investigator of £24.5m WEFO funded FLEXIS project investing future energy systems and a co-investigator of a £5m EPSRC project on Multi-Scale Infrastructure Systems Analytics. He is a co-author of books “Smart Grid: Technology and Applications” (2012, Wiley) and
“Smart Electricity Distribution Networks” (2017, CRC).
He is a Subject Editor of Applied Energy (Impact  Factor: 7.90) and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of IET Energy System Integration. He is the Director of Applied Energy UNiLAB on Synergies  between Energy Networks (). He is Co-Director of INCOSE UK Energy Systems Interest Group, a member of Wales Smart Energy System Group, and the Scottish Power Energy Networks Strategic Stakeholder Panel for England and Wales
