活动简介

报告摘要:This talk consists of three closely related topics. First, the recent study on the effects of saturation, grain shape, grading and lateral confinement on the high strain rate compressive responses of partially saturated sand and glass beads using the modified split Hopkinson pressure bar will be reported. Second, the numerical simulations of the dynamic behaviour of sand under impact loading using combined discrete element method (DEM) and finite element method (FEM) in LS-DYNA will be presented. The simulation results suggest that it is feasible to model dynamic behaviour of dry and wet sand with low saturation (<20%) in LS-DYNA; however, a number of questions remain open about the effect of grain shape, grain crushing and viscosity. Finally, the recent development on the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) framework for modelling multiphase interactions at meso-scale will be reported. In the proposed SPH framework, inter-particle forces are accounted to model both the liquid-liquid and liquid-solid interactions; particle penetration between liquid-solid phases is prevented using a boundary force formulation. The deformation of the solid induced by the liquid-solid interaction has also been simultaneously modelled, demonstrating the potential of the proposed framework to genuinely study complex multiphase interactions in wet porous media
